PROPOSED PHASE 1 ROUTE
PHASE 1 ROUTE (see dotted line)
Phase 1 of the scheme would focus on restoring the southern stretch of the waterway up to and including the town centre 'loop'. This section poses the fewest challenges technically and would bring the greatest immediate benefit to Maidenhead town centre. The channel from Bray Marina up to Maidenhead town centre would be dredged and enhanced to the agreed design standard for navigation, with new boating facilities provided near Green Lane, alongside Chapel Arches/Bridge Street and also at Town Moor, behind the Police Station, where the stream presently meets with the Maidenhead Flood Relief Channel (MFRC) part of the route.
Water supply would as now be from the stream to the north, but supplemented by pumping in times of low supply and with access to the resources of the lakes on Summerleaze property in northern Maidenhead. Water levels would be controlled by a new lock and weir near Green Lane
The planned inclusion of the MFRC would allow the creation of a circular route around the town able to be used by small boats and for other leisure activities.
